CubicAftermath, Ireland as a whole was part of the UK until 1921, represented in Parliament. 6 counties remain in the UK as Northern Ireland (but NOT Great Britain - that is the name of the island containing Scotland, Wales and England), while the rest became the Irish Free State. The Free State later unilaterally declared itself a republic.
