go see the many many other beatiful Greek Islands. unfortunately mykonos and Santorini have become too touristic and cliché and lost their indigenous appeal. they have marketed themselves immensly but Greeks themselves don't even go there. they are for tourists. there are other Greek islands and areas of Greece that are far more beatiful and culturally maintained.

Santorini looks especially unique with its crescent shape, but it hasn't always looked like that. It was originally circular until a volcanic eruption destroyed the center of the island. There is a theory out there that the destruction of Santorini is the basis of the Atlantis myth.

I knew the answer because that's where the fabulous Yanni is from. And 'Santorini' is one of his best.

HeatseekingOx46014, where would you suggest that is less touristy? I have already visited Rhodes, Zante, Crete and Halkidiki all of which were beautiful in their own way but very busy.

Not sure I'd agree with them being the most famous, what about Crete, Rhodes, Cyprus or Corfu?

Santorini (Greek: Σαντορίνη, pronounced [sandoˈrini]), officially Thira (Greek: Θήρα [ˈθira]) and classical Greek Thera (English pronunciation /ˈθɪərə/), is an island in the southern Aegean Sea, about 200 km (120 mi) southeast from the Greek mainland. It is the largest island of a small circular archipelago, which bears the same name and is the remnant of a caldera. It forms the southernmost member of the Cyclades group of islands, with an area of approximately 73 km2 (28 sq mi) and a 2011 census population of 15,550. The municipality of Santorini includes the inhabited islands of Santorini and Therasia, as well as the uninhabited islands of Nea Kameni, Palaia Kameni, Aspronisi and Christiana. The total land area is 90.623 km2 (34.990 sq mi). Santorini is part of the Thira regional unit.

I am from Santorini the island with the volcano and the wild beauty. It has a unique caldera. It is really crowded around July and August. So it is much better for you to visit around May or end of September or October. Thank you all for your nice comments I hope for you to come and have a great time.

I will never forget my first visit to Santorini, I was leaving my hotel when a lady fell out from the first floor balcony and landed in top of me and I broke my leg. Despite that happening I like the place very much and the locals are so friendly

I went camping with my cousins to Mykonos as a teen. It's now considered the "Monte Carlo" of Greece, very expensive.

I would say that Crete is more than likely more popular than these two though.
