I think the word also had something to do with the wounds of Christ and how really holy Saints would get these same wounds. Scared me as a kid until I realized I was never going to be a saint! Whew!

An odd question. I've never heard anyone refer to multiple stigma as stigmata. And I've never heard of stigmata, similar to the piercing of Jesus, in the singular. Claims have always been for multiple marks at a time.

CyanJaguar62, hi, the condition was identified first before being latterly applied to the mental alignment of Christs followers, then made famous by films like Stigmata where the empathy to feel Christs pain was so overwhelming that it literally created a the same biochemical experience. wow, isn't the mind amazing.
