There is a greek island, Kalymnos, where in the past, the main economical resource came from sponges. Collecting sponges is a very difficult profession due to the great sea depth, one must swim in order to find them. Villagers dance a special dance, imitating the neurological problems sponge divers suffer from.

Kenji112, my daughter's first word at the years old was not mama but SpongeBob. Don't worry, she is a perfectly wonderful and intelligent girl now.

Player #7929563, The ones you buy in a plastic bag at the grocery store are not alive, nor do they "come to life" when you wet them. They are fake.
Django
JDoe555, sponge-worthy

I disagree. The loofah is the only natural sponge other than ocean sponges. I grow them every year.

Sponges belong to phylum porifera in animalia kingdom... they lack nervous system, poor digestive system, no haem or blood circulation and each cell feeds by filtration indipendently. Sponges are so hard due to needle like crystals they have called Spicules-probably the star shaped!
Player #7929563
When we use them for cleaning purposes are they still alive or are they now dead because they have not been in the water? Do they then come alive when we add water?? Just wondering, my friends.
Shonkatron
You can put various different sponges into a blender, blitz them up and over time they will reform into their original state. So cool
