Good question and answer Silverman. I teach that digital means only two states in logic. High or Low. Analog can be anywhere between high and low. That's my intro for new trainees.

binary means two states.
digital means of ten states, it comes from digit, ten fingers.
The correct terms are analogue (continuous), and discrete (individual, separate).
