Which term means the removal of a limb?

So many people come back from the war with a leg being gone. I am grateful now that there is technology that gives hope to amputees and can provide them with artificial legs. Especially for children ..

Michael, Sad that people think diabetes can't be reversed, which means amputations can be prevented by reversing diabetes.
