India is the only country in the world with both lions and tigers in the wild. India has the Bengal tiger, the most common tiger subspecies in the country, and the Asiatic lion, which is only found in Gujarat's Gir Forest National Park. As of 2023, India has around 3,682 tigers, which is more than 75% of the world's tiger population. The Asiatic lion population in India is also increasing, with about 400 lions in the Gir National Park and 300 in other parts of Gujarat as of August 2023. In 2017, the Asiatic Lion Census counted about 650 lions, but by 2020, at least six satellite populations had spread to eight districts in Gujarat.

Smarty Pants, mountain lions aren't lions. They're pumas.

Smarty Pants, just as Koala Bears are not bears, Mountain Lions (also known as Pumas, or Cougars) are not lions.

Smarty Pants, I think mountain lions are different from the lions being referenced here.

Except for a small population of the Indian lion subspecies that remains in the Gir Forest of northwest India, lions now live only in Africa, from the Sahara's southern fringe to northern South Africa. They are absent from equatorial areas dominated by moist tropical forest.
