Actress Dorothy Dandridge was Oscar nominated for Carmen Jones, a film made by Otto Preminger. Preminger was so infatuated with Ms. Dandridge that he built a house for her not too far from where he lived with his wife. She was indeed talented, beautiful and also friends with Marilyn Monroe. But because of the treatment of black women during those times, she could never get the roles that she deserved even with her capabilities. Ms. Dandridge eventually took her own life.
