Many people have survived being struck by lightning because despite the incredible voltage involved, it is not the voltage that kills a person. Lightning typically has a low amperage (amps) which is most simply defined as the strength or volume of flow of an electrical current. Even a relatively low voltage can kill at high amps. If lightning had high amps, anyone struck by lightning would instantly die. It's not the voltage that kills, it is the amps.
