The Conquerer was filmed at a radioactive site located next to govt. testing area, when asked if the site was safe the govt. sssured it was and filming began afterward several actors as well as director would die of cancer they believed was caused by not being told the truth about the radioactive red sand on location. Some of the red sand was even transported back to the studio in CA.

PersnicketyDonut633, Thanks for mentioning this as it's an incredible story. Ninety people who worked on-site died of some form of cancer, including the stars John Wayne, Susan Hayward and others I can't remember. What a waste!

this movie should have used an Asian actor for the lead role yet another example of the racism of Hollywood then and now also an example of a lying local government if they had told the truth about the radioactivity of the site it wouldn't have killed all those people
