Player #3730033, I live in New Orleans where many of the arguments over removing statues have occurred. I have mixed feelings over removing these statues as do many others. The original intent of many of these statues was to promote fear in the black population of the area. By removing the statues, history is certainly not being erased. However, it does show an awareness of the impact that the statues have had on the black community. I've been to Germany many times, but have never seen a statue of Hitler. And yet, the history is still there.

Player GayleP, unfortunately it’s a part of history. If you wish to pretend that it never happened then you go for it.

LisaJean,
Why do you believe that the people of those times thought that putting up statues would promote fear in the black population?
I think they had more , and more direct ways for that
Player GMN21
plantlover1111, they didn’t. Hitler never listened to his General’s so they lost Moscow. Army group center could’ve taken it in August. Instead he had his Army attack Leningrad and Ukraine first. The roads turned to mud from September through October. Then in November thru December the temperature dropped to 50 below zero! The German’s only had summer uniforms. So much for conquering Russia.

LisaJean, I don't think Germany wants to remember it's History in a negative way. You will never see a statue of Hitler in Germany. Hitler was Austrian born, not German. The German people were oppressed by Hitler and his gang of Nazi thugs into complying because he wanted to rule the world. So many German people didn't agree with with him. They considered him a Dictator, and they were right, but they were absolutely terrified of his Nazi thugs. They were terrified of what he and his cohorts were capable of. During his so called reign, Hitler organised a Young group called the Hitler Youth. They believed in him so much that they betrayed their friends and family. Please can we never let this happen again.

They did not include that they took all European countries under the Soviet Union (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Belarus, Ukraine) being taken by Nazi Germany. They also did not include the Battle of Stalingrad (Now Volgorod). That battle was a turning point and then Soviet Union captures all territory that was once captured by Nazi Germany itself.

Yaniv, Napoleon actually did conquer Moscow. he went to bed in the Kremlin and his generals woke him during the night. Moscovites had set fire to the entire city, to keep it from being under Napoleon's rule. he turned to the generals and said these people are unconquerable and he left!
