Orcas belong to the dolphin family. Although this is perhaps a pedantic point, as current evolutionary theory classifies toothed whales as being more closely related to dolphins than to baleen whales. This kinda seems logical, as, besides the obvious: jaws with teeth v's baleen, baleen whales have 2 blowholes compared to just 1 for toothed whales and dolphins. There maybe some other differences too. What I'm not clear about is why the toothed and the baleen whales continue to be classified together. I'm no expert. Can anyone fill me in?
