BoondockSaint, history is history you can't change it tearing down our historical statues is a discretion to OUR history. We should use OUR history to learn so we don't repeat OUR mistakes.

CallousedSeer35839
Thank goodness for Sir Walter Raleigh. :-)

I read alot of the comments here and alot of the people are getting defensive about statues. If u want your statues then you should not object to put them in a museum but the plaque that commemorates said statue should tell the full history (ie if they were privileged enough not to have to work that allowed them to accomplish these great things.
It is the same for all of history. Teach it all and include morality with it. No more white washing

And yet he completely missed San Francisco Bay on his first trip around. I think he found it on his 2nd trip...He was also a pirate.

OrdinaryCommander334, I’m black and I don’t want a reminder of or want to see a monument honoring a person who fought against their govt to preserve chattel slavery of my ancestors PERIOD. Sorry not sorry. Anyone who thinks it’s ok to keep these monuments in open public spaces is delusional. Put ‘em in a museum. They play into institutionalizing white supremacy and blotting out sins of treason and slavery. You won’t find Natzi relics anywhere in Germany; Germany criminalized them and people can be jailed for displaying Natzi paraphernalia. Keeping them displayed guarantees our country won’t fully confront our past and honestly, it’s disheartening and disrespectful to Black people. Weve endured enough and still enduring. It’s time for true healing and decommissioning confederate monuments is a start.

Historical figures and statues deserve preservation and a certain amount of respect . Let’s keep history where it belongs, in books and in the shape of monuments and keep the narrative free of racial and political biases.
