Our son has a Manx cat, and he is definitely NOT social. He is a 'one man cat' for sure!

My family and I have one. Actually she belongs to my wife. But took up with me shortly after I was welcome into the family. Her name is Precious.

Stumpys or stubbins have a residual bit of tail whereas a rumpys have none, nada, zip. My Taz was a rumpy with tabby markings and a bit of a talker. I still miss her!

I had a Marmalade Manx, named Meow. He had torquoise eyes. He was a great hunter and a very social loving cat. I miss him very much and he has been gone for 30 years.

Visited the Isle of Man as a teenager. It was great to see many of these cats around and about. Lovely island, well worth a visit, great scenery and sense of history

I always understood that it was a negative mutation that caused the lack of tail, similar to the one causing spina bifida in humans. Apparently, many kittens are born badly handicapped - usually with paralysed back legs - and must be immediately put down. I have heard vets say the breed should be allowed to die out.
