A different rodent, the Nutria, also from South America, has taken over Louisiana's wetlands, where they turn land into open water by digging tunnels all through it. Government eradication programs and a bounty on Nutria tails have failed to even control the population. Invasive species are a symptom of what Laurie Garrett wrote about in her fabulous book, "The Coming Plague: Emerging Disease in a World Out of Balance."

We can find and see capybaras probably around Colombia 🇨🇴, South America. Capybara is the largest rodent that can swim in rivers.
