Had never been to Idaho (we’re from Pennsylvania) before this year. It’s a state that one never hears much about…Idahoans, no doubt, prefer it that way. Our son and daughter-in-law took us there from Missoula, MT, where they live. The state is beautiful and the people were so friendly. I was surprised at how many of the place names were French. I was told that French fur trappers named the places. We stayed at a cabin above Idaho’s largest lake, Pend Oreille. I saw on the news that an area in southern Oregon wishes to become part of Idaho and they ‘have more in common with Idaho than folks from Oregon.’

I have collected opals, garnets, obsidian, jasper, fossils, quartz, thunder eggs and olivine in Idaho. You could say I have just scratched the surface of what Idaho has to offer in gems.

I'm an idahoan was lucky enough to be born and raised there. I've dug for and found star garnets.
