The way the word, "trillion" is thrown around these days, you would think the people who throw it around could actually conceive of this almighty number. Few of us can accurately conceive of a million. A school principal and some teachers at a school of all-white Christian kids set about teaching the Holocaust. They wanted to help the kids understand six million dead, so they set up a paper clip drive, and encouraged the children to collect paper clips from friends and neighbors and bring them to school. A goal was set of 1 million paper clips, and the kids brought them in. Somehow Stephen Spielberg heard of the project and he donated 100,000 paper clips. As the clips kept coming in, and they were nowhere close to a million, the kids began to equate the clips with people, and a new understanding was born. Numbers are just words if nothing makes them real. The project has been featured in a documentary called Paper Clips.
