In what state is Yonkers located?

I would like to visit New York but wouldn't want to live there! I would want to visit Ground Zero where 911 happened and pay my respects to all those who died. It was a horrific tradegy that lives on in the lives of the living family members FOREVER.

I would like to visit 2 places - New York to stay in a nice hotel and see a couple musicals (something I've wanted to do for a long time, but have never been able to afford), and Aspen, CO to attend the Aspen Music Festival and visit the John Denver sanctuary. I have visited NYC twice: My junior high school took the entire 7th grade on a day trip by train (we saw the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building and other landmarks on a bus tour, rode the Staten Island Ferry, had dinner at a few restaurants in the city - my group went to the Russian Tea Room, some went to the China Pavilion, etc. My 2nd trip to NYC was as a member of the chorus of our city's symphony orchestra - we performed at Carnegie Hall along with a university choir from the area. That was a bus trip - we just had a meal, a rehearsal, and the concert, then went home - no time for sightseeing.

people don't believe everything you hear. People tell me that the middle of America is filled with Meth heads and Opioid abusers. I know better. There are good and bad people everywhere. Visit before coming to any conclusions.

I'm sure Yonkers & all the other places near, in, around, or associated with New York City are wonderful & dear to those folks who grew up there or lived there. However, people like myself who are from the central areas of the U.S. such as Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, etc. have heard so many negative things about New York City & surrounding areas that we are comfortable living our lives without the experience of visiting those places. It is a shame because I'm sure we'd come away with a good feeling about the area if only we had the chance. No place is ever as bad or good as you've been told.

I'd love to visit again, but the next time I'm wearing my sensible shoes instead of the cute ones!

New York is a great city and state. living in the outer boroughs is where it's at. Trains and buses run 24/7. There is always something to do or see. Museums and art galleries abound. Love it here can't you tell?

I am from Texas, and the only reason that I've heard of Yonkers is because it was the setting for a play I was in called "The Matchmaker", which is where the musical "Hello Dolly" came from. it is curious how all of our life experiences contribute to our knowledge base. I am amused reading comments of you guys from places that I know very little about, and what I do know, I read about or discovered as a tourist. you all keeping sharing your stories. it is expanding my base of knowledge and helping me.

I was born there... I hopped a bus when I was 6 years old and went to Getty's square, and back home, by myself! My poor parents!

I WAS BORN IN NEW YORK THE BROOKLYN AREA . I HAVENT BEEN BACK THERE SINCE 1967. IT CHANGED SO MUCH I BARELY RECOGNIZED IT.

I live in upstate NY and it's beautiful. Adirondack Park is 6 million acres (look it up) of mountains, lakes, forest and streams. NYC is just a very small part of this awesome state!

ChampionNymph37634, We are in that "central areas" & our opinion has not been swayed about the big cities & traveling. We have visited many places & plenty are still on the list. Our curiosity has not waned in despite of the opinions, or stories, etc. of others. After we experienced a person, place or thing is only when our opinions will be formed & not beforehand; good, bad or indifferent. We fully accept the duality in everywhere, everyone & potentially everything. We love to travel, enjoy being away & coming home

With all that said, you are correct, you would leave NYC with a great feeling. In many places there are good & bad, so you should explore & experience the big apple yourself.

ChampionNymph37634, many famous people live here in NYC and suburbs including meryl Streep. There’s Good and bad everywhere but NY offers many things that other places don’t. Live a little come visit us life is too short to live with such fears.

Lived there when I was 18 in '85. Worked in Rochester for a while. Enjoyed my time there.

ChampionNymph37634, there are some things about the northeast that are different and upsetting to people from elsewhere. it's not that everyone in the northeast is mean, it's just a different way of treating people and looking at life. a little darker.

Never been to NYC and don't want to. Have been to NE in the early 90's. I want to visit Alaska it's beautiful.
