knucklehead1941, thank you for telling it like it was. my father was so poor that his mom couldn't pay $.10 for him too get piano lessons. As long as he lived, he would not eat cooked greens. His dad died in 1937 after a prlonged illness, dad had to start working after school at the age of 12. kids today dont understand.

You are absolutely right! My grandmother made sure we knew what peril the world was in during the threats from Germany, Italy and Japan. I have pictures of our family outside our home with 5 stars in the window for our boys (my father, 2 uncles, and 2 cousins) who were fighting the evil in Germany, France, England and the Pacific.
