Who was Sigourney Weaver's character in the 'Alien' franchise?

Alien is a fantastic film.

I first saw Alien at a cinema when I was 16. I went with my girlfriend and her brother. During scary bits they lept from their seats. I did not. Afterwards she commented on my bravery. Truth is, I was so scared I couldn't get up if you had held a gun to my head!

"Not defined by her gender", "not merely eye candy". Really? that's why they had her running around in her underwear at the end. Sure thing.

My younger cousin is named Ripley after Weaver’s character in Alien :)
