The Soviets' critical role in WWII was downplayed immediately afterward due to the tensions surrounding the Cold War. Nearly 4 out of 4 Nazis who died in WWII died in the USSR. The war was won with British intelligence, American steel, and Russian blood.

PanhandleGuy, You forgot to mention the Canadians who landed on Juno Beach during the Normandy campaign. And it was also the Canadians that liberated Holland during WWII. Canada was involved in the war effort from the beginning, unlike the USA which only got involved in December 1941 after Pearl Harbor.

Diver Dan, Very appalling considering how many died by their own communist government on the battlefield or being worked to death in a Siberian gulag after the war for the crime of being a POW.

Player #4652898, that mat be, although I don't think that many died in Russia. It's important to remember that they carved up Poland in conjunction with Germany. They were war criminals themselves. Because of that, the only credit the USSR and Stalin deserve is, "Thanks for keeping them busy in the east." They also used the moment to conquer the eastern European sovereign states and added them to either their Union of Soviets or their defensive pact. So they don't even deserve that. They were the only aggressive state in the war that didn't pay reparations.

Opposing the expansionistic USSR was a raison d'etre of the Axis. Germany and the USSR jointly attacked Poland to start WWII. All branches of the Russian armed forces had inferior equipment to the Germans, and the USSR compensated with a ruthless disregard for the lives of their own. As a nation there is nothing to be proud of with any of this.

Brave Polish soldiers underplayed. A bit like their contribution to the Eighth Army in the desert and Italian campaigns and their brave pilots in the Battle of Britain.

It’s offensive to call the Soviet Union as an ally. People should remember that Staline was Hitler’s ally when WWII started and they were planning to divide Poland between the two. The Soviet Union at the same time was invading Finland, and after suffering huge losses, Hitler saw an opportunity to back stab his partner, and invaded Russia. The only reason the Soviets fought the nazis, was to protect their land, it was not for higher values of liberty or democracy, or to stop the genocide of jews. It is time to start to account history as it really happen and stop glorifying the role of the soviet union on WWII

DSDA, because that's when Japan and Germany declared war on the US. England declared war on Germany after they invaded Poland. it was a European war at that point.

So sad how many people think that there were not Soviet people in that war. So many people died to America called themselves as savers

Player #24358685, It’s important to remember how Poland was agressive before 1939. It’s not a Saint country. They cut German lands as well. And yeah there were too many Soviet people who died in that war. It’s better to not know it personally
