the renaissance was a cultural movement, not a religious one. The reformation and the renaissance were not the same thing.

Player #108731, There's nothing wrong with anyone loving their religion, but this is an inappropriate place to "testify".

nimblemoon, I agree with you and I wonder why it's always the Evangelicals Christians that feel the need to "enlighten" and judge everyone? It's very off-putting.

I believe that anyone can believe in whatever or whomever they want to. Judging others in their beliefs is rediculous if u ask me...

When people start asking questions and becoming educated, religion loses it's power (not necessarily our spiritual side, just the organised power structure of religion). Education clears the air and lifts us up in THIS world.

baloney. Are you aware of the beautiful art that came about, as well as science that the Catholic Church commissioned? And the Catholic Church is universal and not just European.

I believe as a Christian we are to love others. I know that you can't force people to believe whT you believe. however Jesus gave us a commission to witness. people will not always bring up religion but if it comes up I will tell about god.

Any entity/authority that collects books or knowledge & designates it as unworthy for the masses should be highly suspect. I wonder what the world would be like if the vaults underneath the Vatican were common knowledge.

It is also good to note that so many diverse stories & traditions in any & all mythologies/ faiths/ religions/ cults/ beliefs/etc. are wonderful. Limiting one's self stifles one's growth. So entertaining & educational to research them all. To each their own.

Something else to consider is how intermingled religion and politics were centuries ago. Lots of corruption and favors within hierarchy. Even Martin Luther was not happy with the fracturing that occurred within the church.

Much of the art adorning RC Churches are from the Renaissance era. I'm not sure that it did challenge the belief of the Catholic Church. Unless of course if you've read to much of the Davinci code
