Tagyhag, we are not and never were a true democracy. The US is a form of democracy called a modified Republic. In the pledge of allegiance, it states "and for the Republic, for which it stand..."

nimblemoon, because as a candidate you could just look to please a few larger states at the expense of every other state and become President. This prevents that from happening.

Whenever Democrats get their candidate in office our electoral college is just fine. Once a Republican is voted in bellyaching ensues.

popular vote isn't about States, it's about the people choosing their leader. I don't think votes for federal elections should be counted until everyone has voted. the election is over before Hawaii and the West coast have voted.

Hillary lost because she was a horrible candidate. In my opinion, the US needs a third party to better address the humanitarian issues beloved by the Democrats, while still encompassing the fiscal concerns so favored by the Republicans.

Bintheredunthat, millitary and some other absentee votes are only a formality. the counting is announced before even beginning the ones that are late for whatever (legal) reason. What a joke!

Maybe there's a better way. Otherwise, we wind up with a president who could barely articulate his policies to a room full of third graders. "You don't negotiate with terrorists!" Sometimes, the system works, i.e. Reagan, Bush(Sr. & Jr.). Heck, even Obama was better.
