When I was a child, in the 70s, my family and I experienced a grasshopper swarm when we were travelling by car across the Canadian prairies. They were everywhere, they even got in the car even though our windows were up. It was kind of scary - and gross.

When I was in Aden ( South Yemen) in the 1960s I was caught in a locust swarm outside. It was like being pelted with stones.
