Which country was the first to establish a colony in North America?
Correct answer: Spain

Deborah
What about the Vikings landing in Canada in the 10th-11th centuries? They had an establishment in Newfoundland.

Laura
Deborah , The question refers to a "colony." The Norse never really had a colony in Newfoundland. First there was a small temporary base for exploration. Then some men and women tried (unsuccessfully) to establish a settlement.
