Which of these cats can purr but cannot roar?

Cats that can roar, like tigers, jaguars, and lions, cannot purr. Cats that can purr, like mountain lions, bobcats, and domestics, cannot roar. And just for fun, cheetahs chirp like birds.

Wow very interesting, I think I saw a David Attenborough doc about Snow Leopards a long time ago.

This question is wrong. Pumas cannot roar either. I live near a big cat rescue in Texas and learned that fact from them.

dude, I always thought snow leopards were called that because they live where it snows a lot and have adapted to the climate with the "furry slippers". LOL. I never thought they were not like any other leopard.

Jane, The San Antonio Zoo had some in the 1980s. Large habitats with a deep concrete moat on viewing side, and a chain link fence with inward curve at the top, with the wire set into a six inch wide concrete wall. the same on the sides. six inches. Wire/chain link in center, so 3" inner surface. These large and soft furred cats learned quickly how to walk, and balance on that three inches, like mountain sheep! They'd manuever around the front corner and stand on the front side,lol! They like ear scritches, chin scritches, purred loudly! It was a rare and beautiful priviledge! It drove their keepers up a wall of a different type, lol! We lived very close by and my children were daily visitors with me, in summer, weekends during school times. You can buy a yearly family pass with unlimited visits quite inexpensively. We also saw the hippo give birth in its pool, no one else around!

I love snow leopards, coz they are cool 🤗☺️

Yeah, I think the puma is the loudest of the non-roarers. It screams and growls so loud, I gave it a pass.

Lionessa, Yes, and cheetahs (the smallest of the big cats) can make 32 sounds including purrs, but can't roar.

Snow leopards are like the ninjas of the mountains—so stealthy and majestic. I mean, they live in freezing, rocky places where most animals wouldn’t even survive, and they still look like absolute bosses. That tail, though… it’s like a built-in scarf and balance beam!

The Snow Leopard is one of my favourite endangered species. Very elusive! I like to see snow leopards somewhere around in Bhutan 🇧🇹 across the Himalayas.
