How many feet are in a mile?

"Mile" actually comes from the Latin "mille", which means one thousand. If you step off 1,000 paces (two steps per pace) and you are a typical Roman soldier (shorter than a contemporary man) you have walked approximately 5,280 feet. A thousand paces was a standard measurement of distance for the Roman army.

metric system is a lot easier

I've known this since grade school!!

Coming from the "Mile High City" made this easy. There's a plaque on a step to the Capitol building, and a row of purple seats at Coors Field indicating the exact spots that reaches that altitude.

I wish the US would do itself a favor and adopt the metric system.
