Angie, that's not the theorem. the Pythagorean theorem states that "the sum of the SQUARES of two sides of a right triangle is equal to the square of the hypoteneuse". no ×2 is in it at all.

Also, calling him a mathematician is a bit misleading. He was more of a philosopher and founder of an almost cult-like group.
