Mike T, I'm spanish and I can tell you that this wine is called cava because it is made in caves that are created specifically for the making of this wine, and these caves got the name cava

The Spanish word for cave is 'cueva' and cavern is 'caverna' so 'cava' isn't really Spanish for those two words.
