No one owns land. However , when a group of people live on a price of land and care for it , plant crops , hunt on it, raise a family on it , and make it their home it becomes their homeland. It is simply immoral and disrespect to think that because a group of people, such as the American Indians , did not buy their home from a government or any other source , that in return it means it never really was theirs . The American Indians did not want to “ own” their land, they simply wanted to share t with the rest of gods creatures in order to create a life for their families . The harmony of their lifestyle was ended so abruptly and sadly that I believe it should be noted up there with the genocide of the Jews in Germany during World War Two . It truly saddens me that people buy into the whole thanksgiving story and that or children are taught that we came as friends and never ok advantage of these kind , intelligent and deeply spiritual people . I pray that we can somehow come to grips with the reality that it is because of the migration of settlers to America that the dominoes began to fall one by one that led to the ultimate demise of the American Indians .

jennycat Of Lionvale, The native Americans weren't really that peaceful. They fought other tribes and took slaves of opposing tribes

jennycat Of Lionvale, I hate to burst your bubble, but Native Americans were not in harmony with nature ant more than any other humans. Coastal tribes would harvest exorbitant amounts of shellfish, make a pile, and burn it all to show off their abundance to a tribe across the water. Plains tribes, while unjustly robbed of the bison, wrre themselves guilty of killing entire herds and taking only the best animals. As far as sharing the land, they watered with one another over control of the land and the vanquished. The Blackfeet were hunter-gatherers in the Upper Saskatchewan Valley until they acquired horses and muskets from the French. They conquered and brutally subjugated all their neighbors until the Yankees arrived. Imagine for just a moment the horror the Spaniards felt when they witnessed subjugated people being slaughtered in bloody rituals, and even consumed their flesh. I do not excuse what whites did (even thoufh it was realky no different from any other conquering peoples), but to suggest that the Americas were just a hunky dory lovefest before 1492 is naive.

This is a PERFECT example of a complaint I've had for YEARS ! I learned about Thomas Jefferson in grade school U.S History class. Napoleon was talked about years later in "World History". Jefferson and Napoleon were NEVER mentioned in the same sentence. Nobody ever said "While this event was happening (here), that was happening (there). I NEVER would've thought Napoleon and Jefferson were negotiating with each other! .

Smoothest deal in real estate history. Second only to the Alaska deal. Our forefathers were some pretty savvy charachters.

jennycat Of Lionvale, I'm glad you brought this up, but using the phrase "ultimate demise" fails to acknowledge Native Americans living today and contributing to our society.

jennycat Of Lionvale, I must agree that history tends to be skewed to push a certain narrative. The loss of great numbers of American Indians speaks for itself. My husband, of the Apache tribe, recounted stories to me about his ancestors and the Trail of Tears. Heartbreaking.

If I’m correct and given roughly a 2200% inflation increase since 1803, 1 square mile would be $1.22. If that’s correct, I’d buy the better portion of Colorado.

jennycat Of Lionvale, Agreeing with all you posted. I'm working on using the term "Indigenous People" since it was colonizers who named the country America and and If my memory serves me correctly they called the people who were already here Indians because then reminded them of Indians from India.
