They had no trouble deciding to be rid of their last Tsar, Nicholas. He, his wife, and all their children were assassinated during WWI. I thought this was horrible, and then I read about "Bloody Sunday". Look it up! Nicholas' grandfather was also assassinated, ironically after he decided to revise Russian government, and was planning to allow more representation for the people.

NihilisticJogger4796, I agree. I have been there 3 times. It is stunningly beautiful with a rich cultural heritage. The Hermitage is a must see. But give yourself the whole day there it is that huge. But my favourite is the Faberge Museum, the eggs are exquisitely beautiful, and the workmanship breathtaking.
