Our son and daughter in law live in Missoula, MT. When we visit with them we always make a trip into Idaho. It certainly is a beautiful and friendly state, not one that you hear about a lot. I’m sure those who live in Idaho are quite pleased with that arrangement. I believe that Senator Frank Church was from Idaho. He was a true statesman.

Idaho's official nickname is the Gem State, because so many gems and precious minerals are found there.
Callie Rose
actually the name Idaho, was originally suggested for what is called Colorado now. The name was supposed to be an Indigenous word for Gem State, but an investigation found it was not an Indigenous word in any tribes in the Northwest or Southwest, so Colorado was used for that state. a few years later the name Idaho was given to the area aboveUtah. Idaho is the Gem State, with star garnet the state gemstone, but a person can find sapphire, opal, quartz, and even industrial diamonds in Idaho. I am proud to say, I am an Idahoan, born and raised. While potatoes are a major cash crop, so are onions, soybeans, wheat and corn.

FaithfulReader … Colorado produces the second greatest crop of potatoes (behind only Idaho), mostly in the cool San Luis Valley, in the south-central part of the state, along the Rio Grande. Rich, fertile soil fills this huge, flat basin, washed down from the scenic mountains all around. We even made doughnuts from them and called them “spudnuts!”
