What is an economic system in which the means of production are owned by private individuals or organizations?

Giggle Pig, I do agree that "everyone has the opportunity to succeed" is the marketing slogan that they use to sell capitalism. Apparently, it's afforded you a decent standard of living. But not the millions of homeless people in the US nor the billions of impoverished people in a world where capitalism rules.

yagura, biggest scam? In my opinion capitalism has resulted in the wonderful standard of living that we now enjoy, at least here in the United States every other economic system seeks to isolate the wealth amongst just a few people. In capitalism everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
