The Japanese people believed their Emperor was divine, a God. That's why they chose Bonsai charges and Seppuku (ritual suicide) over being taken prisoner--it was Glorious to die for the Emperor. During our occupation of Japan, first thing MacArthur did was put the emperor on the radio to tell the people he was a man. So, after his photo appeared in newspapers, the Japanese people not only lost the war, they also lost their God.

Six years from the discovery of nuclear fission in 1938-39, through the formation of the Manhattan Project in 1942, the enriching of uranium, the building of the very first atomic bomb, the Gadget, and on to the dropping of the bomb in 1945. Albert Einstein himself told President Roosevelt that he had better get to work on the Atomic Bomb, because Herr Hitler was working hard to create his own bomb. Had he succeeded, I have no doubt that London would have been his first target.
