It’s interesting in the fact that we carbon date fossils ect but never thought about plants

Player #55741825, (I am not sure but) maybe they use more general radiometric dating. When a plant/ animal "fixes" a gas from the atmosphere the ratio of isotopes is known. With the decay rate of the isotopes, the time can be found. But now many elements/ isotopes are used. They compare ratios Nitrogen, Oxygen, Carbon... isotopes. The comparison is based on whether aging in years up to hundreds of millions of years.
