for anyone interested there's a documentary on Netflix called blackfish. Its about orcas and one in particular who killed several people while in captivity. Very interesting

I am doing a research about air pollution and i read an article saying thay killer whales population are doomed to extinction because of poisonous chemicals in their body being passed to their offsprings which is really sad (>_<｡)

InvisibleFriend70017, proven by whom? I wouldn't believe that unless I saw it with my eyes. First of all they are bigger than ANY shark, secondly they ALWAYS hunt & travel together they live in family units, & third they are HIGHLY intelligent. No great white is going to slide up on them, sorry.

WeeverBeezle, That is incorrect. Great Whites are terrified of Orcas, and will vacate an area, sometimes for months or years, just to avoid the Orcas. And Orcas seek out White Sharks because they need the nourishment inside the shark's liver. So, Great Whites DO NOT hunt Orcas, but Orcas DO hunt Great Whites.

StriderE7, Yep - they are known to rip out the liver of Great White sharks (high in nutrition). A few yrs ago, 2 Orcas (nicknamed Starboard and Portside due to the curvature of their dorsal fins), were hunting GW sharks off the coast of Cape Town in South Africa. The GW's fled and stayed 100's of km's away!

In a terrible dance of back and forth, the inmates were fed sharks from the waters around Devil's Island, which are heavily infested. When inmates died, they were fed to the sharks. A self-sufficient system. No waste. It might be elegant if not so gruesome.

Can everyone just chill about humans being their predators? We all know that humans are predators to nearly every creature and are toxic to the planet (with the right arsenal for hunting, pollution, and overall destruction) and it even stated it in the information. But they're just stating from a natural food chain perspective. Just relax on the whole humanity is evil thing, we all get it. I think animals are precious and hate animal cruelty just as much as you do but stop trying to make it about us all the time and just look at it objectively.

Please call them Orcas. Orcas are not even in the Whale Family. They are the largest member of the Dolphin Family. They are not “killers,” which attaches a negative connotation. Orcas are a keystone predator. Calling them “killers” is pure human anthropomorphism. Just call them what they are; Orca. Oh, and Orcas predate on great whites.

great whites are a amazing animal and excellent predators but the orcas size and the packs usually mean they come out on top. By no means tho some large great whites do beat single orcas just rarely seen
