I believe the horse was a pinto, not a palomino

SneakyMole92698., Don't feel silly! I read it that way too at first and I was an English teacher! They should have said, "What was the last name (used or given to) of Tonto's horse?" My pet peeve is when people use sloppy sentence construction and the actual meaning gets obscured or dubious. And it has been happening more frequently!

It was always 'Scout' on the radio. We didn't have a tv until 1956.

yes, scout was not a palomino. Roy Rogers horse, Trigger, was a palomino.

Anna Lane, no, paints are not the same as pintos. Paints apply to the Quarter Horse breed. Pinto is a pattern found in many breeds.

I missed this but only because how they framed the question. when I read what was the last name, I thought they meant a last name like Smith in John Smith. I knew Tonto horses name was scout but I thought they added a last name to it. Shows you how smart I am.🥴

saying "last name" is confusing. perhaps, structuring the question to read "what was the name of the final horse Tonto rode at the end of The Lone Ranger series would sound more appropriate.

DisturbedJogger22406, Scout is Tonto's horse. His color is pinto, also known as paint. (Pinto and paint are horse  colors, not breeds.)

DisturbedJogger22406, They're both color designations. Palomino designates a golden/yellow body coat with a lighter color (white or flaxen) mane and tail. Pinto is any base color coat, usually black or chestnut/sorrel, less often bay, sometimes grey, with big white areas. These are not breeds, only color or color pattern names.

DisturbedJogger22406, It was a pinto or some say paint horse.

DisturbedJogger22406, you are correct. And the horse likely was a Paint. The difference between Pinto & Paint is that only horses with Quarter Horse or Thoroughbred lineage can be registered as a Paint. I believe any breed or mixed breed with the proper coat color can be registered Pinto. We once had a Paint that had Man O War in his pedigree.
