Why do porcupinefish puff up?

iv'e eaten it twice in my Island home of Jamaica,on the fishing beach called Grenwich farm in kingston.

Yvònne, I think they are absolutely amazing and super cool. I like fish too eat but I probably wouldn't eat this one. God, sure makes awesome creatures.

We use to catch the baby ones that swam closer to the shorelines, they're so cute, but poisonous to eat if you're not familiar with the preparations of this fish! Grandma and her siblings cooked the Pufferfish meals, but till this day, I refuse to taste or eat it! 🫣🤨

They are scary looking when they puff up.
