I read up on antiperspirants, and it seems that the aluminum IS the antiperspirant. It melts on the skin and fills the pores so they can't sweat. This is how it enters the body. Deodorant is for smells and antiperspirant is for wetness. I never even wondered how it worked. I was just glad it did.
