Texas is the only of all 50 states that can fly their flag at the same height as the US flag, because it's the only state that was a country of its own before joining the United States.
Nutshell
Trucker91203, Absolutely wrong!!! The Republic of California, The Republic of Vermont, and the Kingdom of Hawaii were ALL independent before joining the US. Texas is not at all unique in that regard... and after California was the shortest lived of them.

The facts after the answer was a little disappointing. I expected them to explain the phrase ”remember the Alamo”. I have a theory why it was often used in battle, but it would’ve been nice to have it confirmed either way.
