Instigated is an unusual word to use.

Player #123997389, This statement is going to muddy the water for people who are already confused enough. Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, 1941. President Roosevelt declared war upon the Empire of Japan on Dec 8, 1941. On Dec. 11, 1941, Adolph Hitler declared war on the United States. Hitler's declaration of war is considered to be one of his biggest blunders because it enabled the US to enter the war in Europe right away. Another of Hitler's giant blunders was ignoring his generals (again) and refusing to move his Panzer divisions to Normandy from Calais. It worked out very well for us.

Don’t forget US companies were also active in Nazi Germany up until Pearl Harbour . American neutrality means profit from both sides. Not many know that the Fanta brand of soft drinks was developed by Coca Cola in Nazi Germany . Never let ethics get in the way of profit

Player #123997389, Your statement is incorrect. The Treaty of Versailles did not promise immediate war if it was violated. The Treaty allowed for diplomatic solutions before military action had to be taken. So a violation of the Treaty of Versailles was not a declaration of war against anyone.

Two of my Mother's Brothers were stationed there on that Day of Infamy. Uncle Loyd was on the USS *Missouri*, where we are *from,* he survived. My Uncle Quinten was on the Mainland. He too survived. They all thought it was a drill since no one believed they would have the unmitigated gall and the audacity to attack US !!! Good thing, in an ironic sad way, other wise we might all be speaking my Grandparents language (Kraut) German...

Really, by violating the Treaty of Versailles in 1939, Germany declared war on all signatories, including the US. Our neutrality was at best a fragile fiction.
