What is the meaning of the word deleterious?

Never used or heard this word before thanks for the info

J, I saw “delete” in the word, and I used the 50-50 option. Harmful made sense. Now my thinking is if there is something harmful, I need to delete it. Are my thinking skills intact?

Alws_Learning, not really, because sometimes a deleterious substance effects other organisms. which are deleterious to you. for example Penicillin is deleterious (harmful) to bacteria, which could kill you. It is not altogether good for you, but worse for them. lol

So true, if something is harmful, don't do it! don't smoke, don't drink and drive at the same time! Why would you?

I wonder why this word is never used? At least it's the first time I've heard of it
