We need to cultivate and pass on the legacy of individuals like her to our present generation. Surely a member of the Mount Olympus of humans born in the 20th century.

When I was growing up in the 40's and 50's she was very well known and celebrated for golf and the Olympics, but she was known as Babe Didrikson only. She added her married name to all her public info after she married.

Katheryn Hepburn played a multiply talented athlete with a trainer played by Spencer Tracy. The film was Pat & Mike and it was released in 1952; two years after Zaharias burst onto the scene in 1950. Hepburn’s “Pat” entered golf tournaments, tennis matches, and track.

FEMALE athlete. “Woman” is a noun. We don’t say “man” athlete, it’s “male.”

it's funny how they named her athlete of the century when they had 50 years left until the century was over with other great female athletes who have been superior but unfortunately women of color didn't get to show off their skills back in the days of Jim Crow
