Player #9591046, they didn’t like the punishment they received. They lost a lot of the land they had poached, they had restrictions on the size of the military and they had (were supposed to) pay reparations. German people were offended and angry about those conditions and that is one of the ways Hitler and the Nazi party got into power. The depression was another .

The reasons the US entered WWI were unrestricted sub warfare against merchant and passenger ships, the invasion of Belgium, and the Zimmermann letter. There's seldom just one reason for war.

So did this trigger the US entering WW1 or was it the sinking of the Lusitania? Or was it both?

In the case of World War I, I was always on Germany's and Austria's side THEN, but I always forget about the Zimmerman telegram which caused outrage (understandably) with our government and the American people. It makes it easier to understand why we got involved in World War I. At that time, relations with Mexico were also horrible, compounding an explosive issue.

Well, if it had not been intercepted and foiled, I wonder what Mexico would have done. Remember Pershing chasing Pancho Villa around this time so no love lost on the gringos and, sure, Germany wins the war, we get back California. Deal!
