We have wild colonies here in Oz. Gorgeous to see them living in the wild and not locked up like prisoners, never let to properly fly and exercise. Sad.

Yana
Beautiful and intelligent creatures.

Budgerigars are renowned for their ability to mimic human speech, even using words in the correct context. They also have monocular vision, which means their eyes can move independently, allowing these birds to detect predators more easily.

Castra, yes, they've been bred for the color mutations.

Castra, It is appallingly cruel to keep one alone - they are prey animals, only feeling safe in a flock. People keep them alone so they will talk, but that is just a desperate attempt to make contact with other budgies - even making what is ( to them) alien noises. They fret all their lives, desperate for contact. Of course, if you keep two or more they wont talk, but will be a little bit happier. Really they should be in a large aviary with plenty of room to fly. Remember, every time you open the cage door, and put in your hand, the poor bird thinks you are a predator coming to eat it.

Wild budgerigars are green, as far as I know, only domesticated ones are blue, yellow, mauve or grey.
