As an Australian who lives on the East coast , we don’t even use the word Bungalow .

"Bungalow" is a broad design term. It's a real estate marketing idea that translates to "small & cramped". Much like "garden level" means it's half underground. Neither of which is neccessarily a bad thing. If you're one who see's the glass as "half full", then It's all good.

ecol528, Exactly what I was thinking as I read the explanation. Plus most of early Hollywood was filmed on studio sets, not outdoors and on location. In Australia we certainly don't use the word bungalow either, it's a Queenslander, Colonial or an Early Settlers home.

We call them Queenslanders, with a verandah on 2 or 3 sides usually. I have never seen with bricks as the style went out decades ago.

I owned an 80-year-old bungalow home, and it was adorable. Albeit a lot of work for upkeep. Nothing was sized to today's standards and repairs were costly. But I loved it.
