Dog Lover, Was it hate or a very misguided show of ignorance. Once anyone dehumanized another race, they will find it so much easier to abuse that race. As a professor told me, to compare a novel, history from 200 years ago by today's understanding, will provide an inadequate comprehension of a situation.

After the Library of Congress was burned by the British in the war of 1812, Jefferson sold his personal library to them for around $24000...approximately 6500 books. A later fire burned two-thirds of those. The remaining books from Jefferson's collection are on display at the LOC. I was a librarian at LOC.

Spow, that’s really cool, I’ve always wanted to visit the Library of Congress, the largest library in the world. I recently learned about the Jefferson Collection. It would be amazing to see it in person one day. I take pride in my own book collection. Books and the written word are so important. You were lucky to get to work there.

John F. Kennedy, while hosting a special dinner at the White House for American Nobel Laureates, said this, "This is the greatest gathering of talent and intelligence ever to be in this room. Except when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."

Alongside the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence is one of the most important documents ever conceived by man. Part of maturity is seeing other people where they stand (18th century British America), not expecting them to conform to your 21st century ideas. All they taught you was about the slaves he owned, while ignoring his greatest achievement--our Founding Documents. That's Indoctrination.

I LOVE TO READ!I used to have a large bookcase filled with books. I kept my college books too, but my daughter, who hates to read threw them out. It rained and they all got ruined.

rlb12344, After Kennedy died, a lot of schools changed their names to J F Kennedy High School. But Kennedy had no part in the building or founding. Most schools are named by place or by honoring a person. I live down the street from an elementary school named for an astronaut. My family and friends ate Thanksgiving Dinner with the so honoured astronauts' cousin. It's a small world after all.!

Dog Lover, It's ignorance. I adopted a child of 2 from Fiji. Having been kept in a crib for all that time, she was just learning to toddle. Another child that we were adopting at the same time spoke English very well. The child babbled a good deal, but it wasn't until I returned to my own country and met a friend's new Indian wife, that I discovered my child spoke fluent Hindustani
