What is the highest elevation human habitation in the world?
Correct answer: La Rinconada, Peru
Saint Nine
pattiehartland5000, you're right, a case of conflating two questions into one. I would suggest "which human habitation has the highest elevation?", but it was understandable. I'm sure a fair number of questions were submitted by users and that a fair number of them speak English as a second language. Given that I think they do remarkably well. I get a bit annoyed by English speakers (I don't mean you) who make fun of other people's mistakes when we're so bad at foreign languages and often make mistakes themselves (confusing there, their and they're is really common).

Due to the high altitude a lot of their children have holes in their hearts, and open heart surgery is too expensive & against their religion. So the women actually knit medical devices by hand that seal the holes and the doctors insert them with a needle... it's really cool.

Montana Lady, I had a similar procedure in the U.S.A. for a PFO in 2011 at 52 y.o.a. I Googled to see what you were commenting on and found a Ted Talk that showed the device being made and the delivery procedure. I just had a different kind of mesh but the concept and insertion were the same. Good for those Drs. finding a way to heal the babies in developing countries without the complications and risks of open heart surgery. Bless them! Thanks for the info!

Rinconada means the corner of nothing. So high up, nothing else there. As Gertrude Stein said "There is no there, there", ......but she was talking about Oakland.

Got to love the 2nd chance button when there are only 3 answers to choose from and you are not sure which one is correct!

over 50,000 people live in la rinconada and almost everyone survives on the gold.mine. the workers don't get any pay, but on every 31st day, they are allowed to take as much ore they have extracted over the last 30 days and can carry with them. Tulwa and Chasangcun (both in Tibet and above 5000 m) are the next 2 highest human settlements
