I wonder what can we do to help us prevent this. I heard of Lions Mane and other things. I am so afraid of this happening to me as my father is going through it 91 years old and he is in good health except for the dementia. it's so sad

toothless beachrat, i went through the same thing with my mom, she would forget who I was, I had to leave a picture of me on her dresser, so she could remember, it was a tough time to go through, bless her heart, I miss my mom too

I'm with all of you who have loved ones with dementia. I've worked in nursing homes, care centers, alzheimers units for many years and have learned to deal with it on a daily basis.
The best advice I can give is to work with your loved one "in their reality " not yours. And don't argue with them.

toothless beachrat, my mother and father both suffered from Dementia. It is by far the hardest disease to watch a loved one go through. The love in their eyes turns to a scared fearful empty look in their eyes. RIP momma and daddy!! ❤️

Scary stuff and seems to be rather commonplace. I sure hope there will more breakthroughs and understanding of what causes this with continued research in the near future.
