Legend says that there was a terrible drought which in turn created a terrible famine. The Comanche shaman said the most prized possession must be made a burnt offering to the great spirit to stop the drought. Seems he was upset with the people for only “taking” from the land but not giving back. When tribal leaders were hesitant to make a sacrifice a young girl named “She-Who-Is-Alone” placed her warrior doll with blue feathers in his hair, the only thing she had left from her mother who died because of the famine, in the fire. This pleased the great spirit so much that the next morning they found flowers all around the same beautiful blue color as the feathers in the dolls hair. These are the very same Blue Bonnets that we anxiously await each spring. Kinda fun story here in Texas

The Yellow Rose was a free black woman named Emily West, who was captured by Santa Anna. While held captive, she used her charms to "distract" Santa Anna, and delay his attack, allowing Sam Houston to win the Texas Revolution.
